The Department for Police Training organizes, directs, implements, coordinates and supervises the implementation of police training in police administrations and organizational units of the General Police Directorate
 
It drafts, monitors and improves the development plans and proposals for programs and training in the areas it manages at the Ministry level (police tactics, general physical fitness, knowledge and application of martial arts and skills, use of means of coercion as well as knowledge, handling and shooting skills with firearms).
 
The Department for Police Training is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the Police Training Program in knowledge, handling and shooting skills with official weapons of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia.
 
It monitors European and global experiences and continuously modernizes police training methods implemented in police administrations and organizational units of the General Police Directorate.
 
It promotes sports and health-orientated physical exercise and creates conditions for strengthening the mental and physical health of police officers, also providing for categorized athletes - police officers administrative and organizational support for continuous training and participation in competitions of national and international importance.
 
It creates conditions for the inclusion of categorized top athletes and coaches in the police training system and the education of police officers.
 
It keeps records of police officers who are athletes, sports workers (coaches, referees, delegates, block leaders), sports clubs and sports associations organized under the auspices of the Ministry, and membership in international police sports associations.
 
Also, Police Officers of the Department for Police Training participate in international activities as instructors in training and testing the general physical fitness of members of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, FRONTEX, as well as in the implementation of the EXBS program of the US Embassy.
 
The Department for Police Training is interested in the development of sports and athletes within the police system, as well as in activities and participation in international sporting events, which results in the development, transfer and implementation of innovative ideas and practices at the European and national level in the promotion and development of sports.
