The University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security is one of the leading higher education institutions for education in the scientific field of security and defence sciences in the Republic of Croatia.
Criminal Investigation as a subject of education and professional-scientific activity of the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security makes this higher education institution specific and unique in Croatia.
Since its foundation in 1971, the higher education institution has been operating as an organizational unit of the Ministry of the Interior, which organizes and implements higher education, primarily for the needs of the police, interested employees of other state administration bodies, as well as civilian students.
In the history of police higher education, the year 1990 stands out, when the Higher School of Internal Affairs was renamed to Faculty of Criminalistics which ran two study programmes: Studies in Internal Affairs and the Higher School for Internal Affairs.
In 1995 the Faculty of Criminalistics was renamed to Police College in the line with the new Law on higher education institutions. Two study programmes were introduces: undergraduate and graduate programme for crime investigation officers. In addition, from 1999 to 2003, the Police College also ran the eight-semester university study programme in Criminal Investigation, as well as the four-semester professional postgraduate programme in Violent Crime.
In 2005 the Police College adopts the Bologna principles and introduces new two-cycle professional studies - the three-year bachelor study (180 ECTS) and the two-year master study programme (120 ECTS).
In addition to educational goals, the task of the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security is to provide access to problems and develop solutions in accordance with modern achievements through scientific methodology.
The University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security signed a cooperation agreement with the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL), and is a member of the Association of European Police Colleges (AEPC). The University also participates in the Erasmus+ programme, the largest programme of the European Union for education, training, youth and sport.
